GOALKEEPER
TRAINING
On Mondays we hold a goalkeeper specific training session which is lead by Joe Potts. This includes an hour of goalkeeping technical work in a small group before joining up with the outfield group to take part in game situations for an hour.
WHO WE COACH
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE FUTURE GOALKEEPER
Excellent handling skills, with good decisions on when to catch or parry.
Has the composure to pass and receive with both feet over varying distances.
Displays courage to dive at the feet of an opponent and deal with physical contact situations.
Has the flexibility, agility and athleticism to move around the pitch and goal at speed.
Demonstrates high levels of concentration to be ready when called into action.
WHAT WE COACH
Mentality to cope with errors and criticism.
Principles of a good start position when both in and out of possession.
Handling techniques in all shot stopping situations.
HOW WE COACH
Individual feedback that is tailored to the players’ individual requirements and covers all aspects of the game (Technical/Tactical, Physical, Psychological, Social).
Use of coaching aids such as video playback for the player to see their shot stopping techniques in action to reinforce or correct techniques.
Ensuring intensity is high throughout the session while developing a relationship with the player and parent.
